Wikipedia gets more social with the love button

The contribution and importance that Wikipedia has in the virtual world is indisputable, despite the multiple critics and detractors it has regarding the quality of the published content since it will be becoming a stronghold of power for a small group of editors. On the other hand, it is also no less true that Wikipedia needs a large number of editors to keep its enormous content base updated; editors who, as we all know, are normal people who do not charge anything to perform this function. Thus, in an effort to motivate participation and as results of studies that indicate that people increase their motivation to collaborate when their effort is recognized and shared by others, Wikipedia has just announced the integration of a social button in its interface. The new Wikipedia feature called WikiLove button is currently in the testing phase and if everything works according to plan, we will have it included to the right of our users page starting next Wednesday June 29th. The shape of this new Wikipedia button is a heart and by clicking on it, a new area called Love Interface will be displayed in which the user will be presented with various options and icons to recognize and promote the work of editors. In addition to being a good idea, this action reveals the profound transformation of the network, to become a unique and great social environment, where we are all related and that should promote and motivate the continuity of the Wikipedia project, without forgetting -by the way- the improve the quality of content.
